Goldenrod Honey straight from a Polish apiary

Goldenrod honey  is definitely harder to come by than other types of honey, among other things because every beekeeper has to leave some of it as food for the bees for the winter. Goldenrod honey is one of the latest autumn honeys. Goldenrod is also a valuable medicinal plant, known for generations. It should be noted that goldenrod honey is one of the honeys with the strongest antibiotic properties. This distinctive property has earned it many loyal supporters. Goldenrod honey contains flavonoids - mainly rutin and quercetin, which improve blood flow to the veins of the lower limbs and kidneys. The honey also contains essential oils, tannins, organic acids and mucous substances. It also contains bactericidal substances, vitamins and a large amount of microelements.

Goldenrod honey

Honey is made from the nectar of goldenrod - a plant commonly called mimosa, golden rod or golden maiden. Goldenrod is a yellow plant that grows in meadows and forests in southern and eastern Poland. Known for its gentle movement in the autumn wind. This plant is commonly considered a weed by farmers. However, it should be remembered that it is one of the most efficient melliferous plants. It is a very valuable plant for both beekeepers and bees. It blooms at the turn of August and September, until late autumn (sometimes even until the first frosts). Goldenrod blooms most intensively in September, i.e. at the time when bees begin winter preparations. It should therefore be remembered that every beekeeper must take care of late feeding of bees for winter, in order to obtain honey from goldenrod .

Storage:  Dry and shaded place (temp. 8-18 C)

Flowering time:  August/September

Crystallization:  Fairly fast (within a few weeks)
